Discover spectacular high-speed photographs of flies captured in flight with precision macro photography and specialized trigger technology .Checkerboard flies (Sarcophagidae) (Ancient Greek σάρξ (sarx) = flesh, φαγεῖν (phagein) = to eat) are flies that feed on dead matter. However, some species lay their eggs in the open wounds of mammals. Hence their name flesh flies. Their larvae are called maggots. After 5 to 10 days, these go underground, after which they pupate into flies. They then have another 5 to 7 days to live. They are a family of two-winged insects (Diptera).
